Legalisation

Legalisation refers to the procedure by which the authenticity of the following elements is certified or recognised: (i) the signature on a public document which has been issued by a foreign competent authority and which is intended to take effect in a state different from the issuing State, and (ii) the capacity of the signatory of the document.

Official recognition ("homologación")

The official recognition of a degree is the procedure by which it is accredited that the training received by a student with a foreign diploma is equivalent to the training required to obtain an equivalent Spanish degree included in the Catalogue of Official University Degrees. From the date of approval of the official recognition and the issuing of the corresponding certificate, a recognised foreign degree will have the same validity as the corresponding Spanish degree all across Spain, in accordance with the regulations in force.

Requesting your master's degree certificate

Once you have successfully defended your master's dissertation and your academic transcript is complete, you can apply for your master's degree certificate.

You must submit your application via the UGR e-Administration Platform .

Once you have submitted your application, a payment form will be generated. This form will be attached to your application on the UGR e-Administration Platform and will also be available under the “Mis Pagos UGR” (My UGR Payments) option of your Acceso identificado Student Account. You can check the fees for the issuing of master's degree certificates here.

Once you have paid the fees for the issuing of your degree certificate, you must submit the following documents:

- Proof of payment of the degree certificate.

- Copy of your ID card or passport (they cannot be expired). - Application form for the issuing of your master's degree certificate. Standard application form.

- If your ID card does not include your place of birth, your application form must be accompanied by a declaration of responsibility.

- If you do not hold an undergraduate degree from the UGR, you must present the degree certificate that gives you access to the official master's degree (original and copy to be certified).

- If you hold a non-recognised foreign degree, it must be legalised and, if necessary, translated.

- Any documents that may entitle you to an exemption or reduction of the issuing fees.

VERY IMPORTANT : Please write your SURNAME and NAME correctly on the application form (including accents, if applicable). If you do not write your name correctly and you subsequently request the reissuing of your master's degree certificate to have any typos corrected, the University of Granada will not assume any responsibility and you will have to pay for the reissuing costs.

As soon as we have received all the requested documentation and your academic transcript is complete, you will be provided with a degree certificate request form (an electronically signed document that includes a Secure Verification Code [CSV] if you submit the application via the UGR e-Administration Platform).

Provisional master's degree certificate ("pretítulo")

As it can be legalised, the provisional master's degree certificate allows you to prove that you hold a postgraduate degree in other countries. This certification is issued pending the issuance of the definitive degree. This procedure is carried out by the UGR Degree Diploma Service. Once you have paid the fees for the issuing of your final degree certificate, you can apply for this provisional certificate through the UGR e-Administration Platform.

More information on this procedure can be found on thewebsite of the UGR Secretary's Office. On this website you will also find information on the procedure for the legalisation of documents issued by the University of Granada.

Reissuing of your master's degree certificate

You can request a reissuing of your degree certificate if it contains errors, has been lost or damaged. You must submit your application using the specific procedure available on the UGR e-Administration Platform.

There are several possible reasons for reprinting:

A. Data errors, changes in the data occurred after the issuing or damage, provided that the essential data on the certificate -name of the degree holder and registration numbers- are legible.

- If the error is due to causes attributable to the UGR, you will not need to pay any fees for the reissuing.
- Once you have paid the corresponding fees, you will need to provide proof of payment.
- You must attach a copy of your ID card, an official document containing the data to be corrected and the original master's degree certificate.

B. Loss or damage resulting in the illegibility of the essential data -name of the degree holder and registration numbers-.

- In this case, it is compulsory to publish an announcement in the Official Gazette of the Spanish Government (BOE) and pay the corresponding fees.

PROCEDURE FOR THE PUBLICATION OF ANNOUNCEMENTS CONCERNING LOST OR DAMAGED DEGREE CERTIFICATES

- Once the announcement has been published, 30 working days must elapse before you can apply for a duplicate of your master's degree certificate.

- You must then provide proof of payment of the fees for the duplication of your degree certificate.

- You will also need to provide us with the application form for the reissuing of your degree certificate, a copy of the BOE issue where the announcement was published and a copy of your ID card.

Official recognition ("homologación") of your master's degree

Royal Decree 967/2014, of 21 November, establishes the requirements and procedures necessary for: (i) establishing official recognitions and equivalences to official university degrees and academic levels, and (ii) validating foreign higher education studies. Several types of recognitions can be granted: official recognition for qualifying degrees, equivalence to a degree or university academic level, and validation. Each of these is defined as follows:

- Official recognition for qualifying degrees: it accredits that the level of training received is equivalent to that of a qualifying Spanish degree (a degree that qualifies the holder to practise a regulated profession).

- Equivalence to a Spanish degree or official university academic level: it accredits that the level of training received to obtain a foreign degree is equivalent to any of the academic levels into which the Spanish university system is structured.

- Validation: it accredits the validity of higher education studies undertaken abroad, regardless of whether or not they have led to the award of a degree. Validations may be granted with the purpose of allowing students to complete their studies begun abroad at a Spanish university.

Procedure for the award of official recognitions (“homologaciones”) and equivalences to Spanish degrees and official university academic levels

You will need to initiate the procedure by submitting the corresponding ONLINE application form made available by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP):

Royal Decree 967/2014, of 21 November, establishing the requirements and procedures for the official recognition and establishment of equivalences to university degrees and official academic levels, as well as for the validation of foreign higher education studies, and the procedure for determining the correspondence to the Spanish Qualifications Framework for higher education of the official university degrees of Architect, 5/6-year Graduate in Engineering, 4/5-year Graduate, 3-year Graduate in Building Engineering, 3-year Graduate in Engineering and 3-year Graduate (22/11/2014).

Diploma Supplement for master's degrees

The Diploma Supplement is an official document valid all across Spain that provides unified and personalised information on the studies completed, the results obtained, the professional skills acquired and the level of their degree programme within the framework of the Spanish higher education system.

It is in no way a substitute for the original degree certificate nor a transcription of it. Likewise, the Diploma Supplement is not an automatic system that guarantees official recognition of your degree.

How to apply for your Diploma Supplement

If you have already completed your master's degree, you can apply for the Diploma Supplement. This document will be issued following all the established formal requirements and after checking that all the provisions of Royal Decree 1044/2003 have been met. The first copy of the Diploma Supplement will be issued free of charge.

Once you have paid the fees for the issuing of your degree certificate, you should preferably submit your application for the Diploma Supplement through the UGR e-Administration Platform:

You can also request it at the Secretary's Office of the International School for Postgraduate Studies (EIP):

Once we have checked that you have paid the corresponding issuing fees, you will be given a draft of the Diploma Supplement. This draft contains all your academic information and relevant personal data so that you can check its accuracy and report any possible material or factual errors.

Collecting your Diploma Supplement

The Diploma Supplement must be collected personally by the degree holder. If you are unable to collect it personally, you may authorise another person to collect it on your behalf.

Issuing of duplicates

Students may apply to the Secretary's Office of the International School for Postgraduate Studies (EIP) for the issuing of a new copy of the Diploma Supplement in the event of loss, theft, damage or any other incident that may have affected the original copy. To obtain a new copy, you will be required to pay the fees established by the Autonomous Community of Andalusia for the current academic year.
