Outstanding Doctorate Awards

Article 26 of the Rules governing the official UGR Doctoral Programme regulates the obtainment of the Outstanding Doctorate Award. Such regulations state that: the University of Granada can give 1 outstanding doctorate award for every 12 defended thesis in each academic year and in each of the following areas:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Social and Legal Sciences
  • Health Sciences
  • Sciences
  • Engineer and Architecture

1. Call for doctoral thesis defended throughout the 2015/2016 academic year

1.1 Application period (extended)

  • 25 April to 21 May 2019.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Extended application period of the Outstanding Doctorate Award 2015/2016.

The Central Services’ patron Saint Holiday, the International School for Postgraduate Studies (EIP) will be closed next 20 May, and consequently the application period will be extended until next 21 May at 23:59 pm.

If you obtained your doctoral diploma from the University of Granada in the indicated academic year and you obtained the cum laude mention, you can apply for this award.

1.2 Application process

  • a) You have to present your application via the following FORM
  • b) You will have to upload the following documents:
    1. Application template, self-assessed and signed in PDF format, preferably with a recognized electronic signature.
    2. Documents that justify the alleged merits.
  • c) In order to present the documents, you will have to state, in the corresponding section in the form, the link so that we can see and download them preferably in PDF format, via cloud systems such as GoogleDrive, Dropbox, OneDrive,etc. If the documents are too large, you may upload them zipped instead of in PDF format.

Make sure that your links work correctly until 31/07/2019.

Within the application period you may modify the form as many times as you want. Please, before finishing the application procedure, make sure the links are working.

3. After Obtaining the Outstanding Doctorate Award.

If you are awarded one of the Outstanding Doctorate Awards, you will consequently:

- obtain an Outstanding Doctorate Award certificate (a certificate that states that you obtained such an award from the UGR Governing Council)

- be exempted from paying the doctoral diploma issuing fees, in accordance with “Order dated 8 July 1988 for the applying of Royal Decrees 185/1985 and 1496/1987 regarding the issuing of official university diplomas.”

If you want to put your doctoral diploma issuing fees exemption into effect, and if you had already paid them, you will have to request the refund of the corresponding fees.

In order to handle the refund of the fees you paid, you will have to hand in personally at INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION (ground floor) or via e-mail --LOGIN--38f34cb42b8caaaefb07bb728c47bfe4ugr[dot]es the following documents:

- refund of fees application form, duly filled in, with your whole bank information.

- Updated DNI/Passport document photocopy.

- Outstanding Doctorate Award Certificate Photocopy.
