REGULATIONS ON THE GRANTING OF OUTSTANDING DOCTORATE AWARDS

The awards are regulated in Article 26 of the consolidated text of the “University of Granada Regulations on Official Doctoral Studies and Doctoral Degree Certificates”, approved in an extraordinary session of the Governing Council of 2 May 2012 (UGR Official Gazette [BOUGR] no. 65, of 11 May 2012) and modified in ordinary sessions of the Governing Council of 30 October 2013 (BOUGR no. 75, of 31 October 2013) and 25 February 2020 (BOUGR no. 153, of 9 March 2020).

Article 26. Outstanding award

  1. The University of Granada may grant, in each academic year and in each of the fields of Sciences, Health Sciences, Social and Legal Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Engineering and Architecture, one Outstanding Doctorate Award for every 12 theses defended in the corresponding field.
  2. Each academic year, the outstanding awards will be granted to the theses defended in the year corresponding to two academic years prior to the preceding one.
  3. The minimum requirement to be considered for the Outstanding Doctorate Award is to have obtained the Cum Laude mention. The evaluations made by the board of examiners in the thesis defence process will also be taken into account.
  4. In order to be eligible for the award, candidates must submit the corresponding application to the International School for Postgraduate Studies (EIP). The application must include proof of having met the requirements, as well as merits such as any publications derived from the thesis accepted in relevant impact journals or reputable publishers, or any results obtained in it that have been patented.
  5. If the minimum number of theses required in any of the fields in an academic year is not met, the awards may be granted the year in which this number is reached, based on the accumulation of theses from previous years.
  6. The boards of examiners may declare the awards void and, as such, they will be unable to accumulate in other fields or other academic years.
