  • 2.1 I HAVE THE DIPLOMA OF RESEARCH PROFICIENCY PURSUANT TO ROYAL DECREE 185/1985. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO CONTINUE MY DOCTORAL STUDIES?

Research Proficiency allows you access to current doctoral studies. Information on the admissions process and current doctoral programmes can be consulted on the Doctoral Programmes website.

  • 2.2 I HAVE THE DIPLOMA OF ADVANCED STUDIES (DEA) PURSUANT TO ROYAL DECREE 778/1998. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO CONTINUE WITH THE DOCTORAL PROGRAMME? DO I HAVE A DEADLINE TO DEFEND THE THESIS?

The same answer from the previous question applies.

  • 2.3 I AM IN A DOCTORAL PROGRAMME REGULATED BY ROYAL DECREE 778/1998. CAN I TRANSFER TO A DOCTORAL PROGRAMME OF ROYAL DECREE 1393/2007 OR ROYAL DECREE 99/2011?

The doctoral programmes of Royal Decree 1393/2007 do not admit new students and therefore it is only possible to apply for admission to doctoral programmes of Royal Decree of 99/2011.

You can be admitted to doctoral programmes of Royal Decree 99/2011 as long as you apply, you have the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) or Diploma of Research Proficiency and you are admitted, at the discretion of the academic committee of the doctoral programme chosen, to the doctoral programme requested.

  • 2.4 HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ROYAL DECREE REGULATES MY DOCTORAL STUDIES?

  • 2.5 IF I HAVE COMPLETED THE DOCTORAL COURSES (32 CREDITS) UNDER ROYAL DECREE 778/1998 BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE DIPLOMA OF ADVANDED STUDIES (DEA) OR THE DIPLOMA OF RESEARCH PROFICIENCY, CAN I ACCESS A DOCTORAL PROGRAMME REGULATED BY ROYAL DECREE 99/2011?

You will have to verify that the doctoral degree is included among those equivalent to level 2 of the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (MECES). .

  • 2.6 DOES MY UNIVERSITY DEGREE HAVE TO BE OFFICALLY RECOGNISED IN ORDER TO STUDY A MASTER'S DEGREE OR DOCTORAL PROGRAMME?

It is not mandatory to have an officially recognised degree to access a doctoral programme. If your degree has been issued by a University of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), you must provide a copy of it and of the official academic transcript indicating the subjects passed and your marks. Both documents must be legalised diplomatically or with an Apostille of the Hague if issued in a non-member country of the EU or other than Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland, and submitted with their official translation into Spanish and the other documentation required for enrolment, where necessary. Finally, you must provide a certificate accrediting that the completed studies allow access in your country to official master's degree or doctoral studies, as the case may be.
